The Centennial girl’s swim team asserted its dominance on Jan. 9, winning the North Fulton Championships at Marist. Sophomore Liz Saint did her share to contribute, winning the 50 freestyle event and finishing second behind teammate Kristen Redmond in the 100 free.

“She’s a powerful athlete in the water, but she’s also a very hard worker – very goal-oriented,” said Erin Pryles, Centennial’s coach. “She a sprinter in the water. She tends to favor her upper body, but she definitely has a strong leg kick as well.”

Saint’s times of 25.30 seconds in the 50 free and 55.58 seconds in the 100 free were good enough to qualify her for the State meet for the second consecutive year. In 2008, Saint finished in ninth place at State in both events, and Pryles said the sophomore’s goal is to finish in the top eight in 2009.

“She was a vital part of the team last year…and it’s interesting, because of USS Swimming we get an idea of who we’re training with, so we knew she’d be an integral part of the team [before high school],” said Pryles.

Saint competes for Swim Atlanta year-round.
